By now, all of us have noticed every single organizational and design deficiency our home has to offer. And if our homes didn’t need a face lift before Covid, it certainly does now. The wear and tear on the floors, walls, cabinets and furniture this year has been tenfold! Here are some refreshing reno ideas for those of you with stimulus money still waiting to be spent:
Containerize. $100 – $200 Splurge on beautiful baskets and bins and hide all the clutter in your closets, cabinets and pantry. Enjoy the clean and peaceful look every time you open the doors. Your local home store should have a decent selection of Curver quality baskets. If not, there’s always Ikea.
Accessorize. $200 – $400 Brighten up your room with a new light fixture, curtains and some throw pillows from Ikea. Develop some photographs and have them framed and hung. Swap out old handles on cabinets for new ones in Jerasi by the Mir. Give your room a complete refresh without a big spending.
Purchase new couches $1,000 – $2,000 Couches are only made to last 5-8 years and yours has seen better days. Do some research on washable aqua clean, faux leather and leather couches. You’ll be surprised to find some good pieces at good prices.
Paint. $3,000 – $5,000 This time spend the money on the type that’s really washable. Find a painter that has expertise in designs and finishes. When the walls get grimy just take a wet- wipe and enjoy your spotless walls for years.
Doors and Floors – $5,000 – $6,000 Now is your opportunity to swap out your beaten bedroom doors from years of kicks and bangs. A new bedroom door in Israel costs between 1300-1800 shekel. Cover your Israeli balatot with beautiful laminate parquet at around 1600 shekel per bedroom. A tzimmer in your own home!
Refresh your bathroom. $5,000 – $6,000 Change your shower curtain for doors, switch your standard toilet to hanging and get waterproof cabinetry that stands up to the heavy bathroom moisture. Tired of scrubbing the grout between the tiles? Replace your moldy small wall tiles for larger ones.
Build your dream kitchen. $15,000 – $25,000 It’s now or never. No more cracked counters and leaky pipes. No more crawling into deep corner cabinets. No more drawers that get stuck. Take this opportunity to design the kitchen of your dreams both in form and function.
