You all know how I feel about clutter. I’ve said many times in the past that ridding your home from clutter can solve many if not all home management problems. However sometimes the clutter really needs to be there. We all have items hanging around our homes, which look like clutter, make the area look messy – but they need to be right there. Just where they are. I’m talking about the earrings that you took off and want to where them tomorrow, so you put it on the night table, the dish soap, sponge, water squeegee and netilas yadaim cup which sit randomly on the kitchen counter, The keys and phone which you want on the little shelf near the front door.
What is the solution for this necessary clutter?
The solution is to anchor it. To ground it. Use the right size decorative tray , or bowl to create a home where you want it. Anchoring your random belongings transforms your visual clutter into a neat and orderly grouping, which may actually look very nice in the room and add character to it. You don’t want your dish soap, washing cup and sponge to be floating around the sink, place them all on a nice tray, give the clutter some boundaries – and it gives them a sense of belonging.
If you always have your coffee , tea and snacking cake out on the counter – arrange it on a pretty tray and it will appear as if it belongs there and not look as if you forgot to put it away. Place a few pretty decorative bowls on a narrow piece of furniture or a shelf near the front door, to catch pocket change, your keys and cellphones and you’ve created a pretty home for these items which you need sitting out in the open. Try anchoring the clutter which you need out and around, in the bathroom , bedroom, kitchen and living room and share with me which problems you soved. Be creative – use pretty baskets, bowls, trays, mirrors, let me know what you cam up with. You can even send me pictures!
